Cuba To Continue Fighting Despite Economic Obstacles: Diaz-Canel
In a massive demonstration, thousands of Cubans gathered this Friday at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune to express their rejection of the hostile policy of the U.S. government toward the island.
The March of the Combatant People, convened by the Cuban government, focused on demanding an end to the economic blockade imposed by the U.S. and the removal of Cuba from the controversial list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
During his speech at the event, President Miguel Díaz-Canel called the U.S. accusation that Cuba is a country that supports terrorist acts “false and immoral.”
“It is doubly immoral when the accusation comes from a country where paramilitary groups are trained to organize and finance terrorist actions against our social and economic structures,” the president denounced.
Díaz-Canel recalled emblematic cases of terrorism, mentioning figures like Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, who found refuge in U.S. territory after their involvement in violent acts, such as the attack on a Cubana de Aviación aircraft in 1976, which resulted in the deaths of 73 people.
The Cuban president stressed that even senior U.S. government officials, such as Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have admitted that there is no justification for Cuba to remain on this list.
“Cuba’s continued presence on that list and the escalation of the blockade are ruthless choices against our people that must cease now,” Díaz-Canel demanded in front of a crowd cheering his message.
This demonstration occurs against a backdrop of growing tension between Cuba and the United States, where the island continues to face severe consequences from the economic and political blockade. The mobilization reaffirms the unity of the Cuban people in defense of their sovereignty and rights against external aggression.
